Maryland Solar Incentives
Maryland incentives are best treated as a stack, not a calculator: MSAP may reduce upfront cost for income-eligible households, while SRECs and utility-bill reduction create longer-term value. Not every Maryland homeowner needs to capture every incentive personally — our $0-down solar lease passes federal commercial tax benefits through as lower monthly payments, while ownership-path customers keep the SREC and grant value directly.

Maryland Solar FAQs
Maryland solar cost depends on your system size, equipment selection, roof configuration, and which financing path fits your situation. We offer three paths to keep upfront costs low: $0-down Maryland solar leases, cash purchase, and solar loans — including the Montgomery County Green Bank program with rates as low as 0% APR for qualifying homeowners. The federal residential tax credit (Section 25D) ended Dec 31, 2025, so Maryland savings now come from SREC income, the statewide sales and property tax exemptions, county-level property tax credits, and the income-eligible MSAP grant up to $7,500 when the application window is open. MD SRECs currently trade around $40-$60 each (Flett Exchange and Currents). Systems installed between July 2024 and January 2028 receive a 1.5x SREC multiplier under the Brighter Tomorrow Act, which boosts effective income. An 8 kW system generates 8-12 SRECs per year before the multiplier — up to ~18 effective annually after the 1.5x.
Yes — Maryland has one of the strongest net metering policies in the country. BGE, Pepco, Potomac Edison, Delmarva Power, SMECO, and Choptank Electric Cooperative all credit excess solar generation at the full retail rate (true 1:1). Credits roll over month to month indefinitely, with an annual April true-up at which any remaining excess can be cashed out (though the cash-out rate may be lower than the retail credit). Net metering is required statewide until total net-metered capacity reaches 3,000 MW.
Yes. Zillow research shows homes with owned solar sell for about 4.1% more than comparable homes without — roughly $16,000 on a $400,000 Maryland home. Maryland's statewide property tax exemption ensures that the added home value does not raise your property tax bill. Owned systems capture the full resale benefit directly; leased systems can transfer to the buyer through the lease assumption process.
Six counties layer one-time credits on top of the statewide exemption: Baltimore County (50% of cost, up to $5,000), Howard County (up to $5,000), Prince George's County (up to $5,000), Montgomery County (county credit plus Green Bank solar loans with rates as low as 0% APR for qualifying homeowners — see our financing page for details), Anne Arundel County (up to $2,500), and Harford County (up to $2,500). All stack with the statewide property tax exemption.
Yes. Aduu Solar Engineering LLC is listed on the Maryland Energy Administration's official MSAP Participating Contractor list. We can take income-eligible households step by step through the MyMEA application portal when the FY27 window opens in summer 2026.
There is no general $5,000 Maryland state income tax credit for solar PV in 2026. The Maryland Residential and Commercial Energy Storage (RCES) Grant Program replaced the old battery storage tax credit in 2024 — residential battery owners can receive up to $5,000 or 30% of installed cost (whichever is less), administered through the MyMEA portal, and the property tax exemption protects against assessment increases on solar value. The flagship MD solar program is now MSAP — an upfront grant rather than an income tax credit.
Physical installation is typically 1-3 days. Full project timelines, including design, MD permits, MCGB-aligned financing if applicable, and utility interconnection, usually run 8-12 weeks end to end.
